Thank you for serving our country in challenging times. I am writing today to ask – that amid all the demands of your leadership role - you watch closely the issues surrounding human trafficking in Canada. I ask:

-What is Canada's plan to protect and care for victims?

-What is your government's plan to reduce the demand for trafficked persons?

-What funding and programs will you endorse and put in place?

-How will you support NGO's in raising awareness and assisting victims?

The demand for paid sex is fueling the buying and selling of human beings for profit in our country. Meanwhile, current court challenges in both Ontario and British Columbia are applying to make the buying and selling of sex a protected freedom under the Canadian Constitution.

While I am aware of Parliament’s work on Bill C268 regarding instituting mandatory minimum sentences for child trafficking, I want to ask that you continue to guard against such change to our laws as would create a climate of great risk for vulnerable women in Canada and deepen the problem of trafficking human beings. Canada must protect the vulnerable and prosecute those who purchase and profit from sex for sale.

I look forward to your reply outlining the discussion and policy considerations underway to respond to the outcome of these current court challenges. What is being done to create a safer climate for vulnerable women and children in Canada?
